LWD Objektive (Long Working Distance) werden verwendet, wenn das betrachtende Objekt einen größeren Abstand zum Objektiv erfordert.

Beispiele:
- in Vakuum-Kammer betrachtende Physikalische Abläufe
- Lebewesen in bedeckten Petri Schalen von oben betrachtet
- Quetschpräparate, welche mit größerer Kraft und dadurch mit dickerem Deckglas gedrückt werden müssen (Trichinea-Untersuchung, aber auch Haare oder dermatologische Befunde...

Da in der Praxis alle diese Abläufe ein stärkeres Deckglas brauchen, sind die LWD Objektive nicht mit 0,17mm, sondern mit 1,5mm optischem Glasweg gerechnet. Weiterhin weisen diese Objektive eine bessere Randkorrektur, d.h. wenige Randverzerrung auf.
